The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) and Business Software Alliance (BSA) have launched an anti-piracy initiative that aims to spread awareness about intellectual property rights (IPR) laws and the legal consequences of using and selling pirated and illegal software. The month-long advertising campaign, which runs from March to April 2011, also highlights the negative impact of piracy to all members of society, particularly in terms of lost jobs. Business Software Alliance recently conducted an intellectual property rights (IPR) seminar in Qatar in coordination with the Intellectual Property Protection Centre to commence this year’s anti-piracy campaign in Qatar. The event spread the message of the importance of curbing software piracy to protect the country’s status as one of the Middle East’s most IT-enabled states.
